14 x 11 x 4" San Francisco Block Book in Green Cloth Boards, Conserved and repaired to like new by Max Smith Book Conservation in 2010. Fine condition for regular use. A constant reference for any San Francisco researcher . Intact and Complete for this year. This is the book which rebuilt San Francisco after the 1906 Earthquake and fire.
An archaic design , the book contains 12 maps of districts by survey name, broken down by city tax block numbers in official order. The following 400+ pages of reference maps with ownership were originally bound in an arbitrary fashion devoid of linear application, thus requiring the included cross reference tables for each city block and its corrosponding map. It is easier to use than describe, but the point is the 12 maps at the front and the cross reference tables are intact ,allowing complete use of the 400+ pages of maps showing ownership and lot details in a cadastral fashion. Complete to 1906 it shows the land ownership and major players for the time and since.
Found in the backroom of Specs bar in the 1990's and gifted to us, the book lacked front boards, had a failed binding and was sitting in a puddle of water. However retaining all the reference maps breaking down the city block numbers and the corresponding cross reference pages, it was worthy of reconstruction and repair, now having since transpired , it's a must have for a San Francisco historian, researcher or geographer .
