Steel Engraved Map on paper, linen backed by the Publisher in 1857 and sold to the open market, this one ending up in San Francisco around 1880 and kept in one family until bought by us. Insert World maps on Mercators Projection and a double globular world , Population charts along the bottom and Vignettes of scenes along the trail. Western States configuration is most unusual and transitional , correctly outlining only 15 states or Territories west of the Mississippi .

California, Oregon, Washington, Utah, New Mexico, Texas, Nebraska, Dakota, Kansas, Indian Territory, Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Iowa and Minnesota. Yet to Establish and missing: Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, Arizona, Oklahoma, Colorado and the doubling of Dakota into 2 states. Hand Coloring is bright and informative , although the map has a large water stain along the upper left edge , from Washington down to Southern California. Still an attractive map that looks the part of an old wall map for a western setting, The map is stabile and ship worthy, it has had repairs and conservation time spent on it to get it to today and it's priced properly.
